Pay Attention to the Health of Your Timing Belt

Although your vehicle contains many essential components to operate properly, one of the most critical is the timing belt. The timing belt is necessary for your engine to run properly, keeping the crankshaft and the camshaft turning at a synchronized rate. A timing belt that suddenly malfunctions can cause severe engine damage in addition to suddenly shutting down your vehicle, no matter where you are on the road.

Pay attention to your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations regarding changing the timing belt to prevent its sudden breakage. Most schedules recommend a new timing belt anywhere between 60,000 and 100,000 miles of driving. It's a good idea to visually inspect the timing belt on a regular basis to check for any fraying, staining or spotting. Any high pitch sound coming from underneath the hood is also a signal to make a visit to our Honda service department to see if the timing belt need changing.
